Beta Launch of New Spanish Flash Cards and Poker Deck!

miniVSpoker-800If there’s one thing I’ve learned while traveling, it’s that knowing even just a little bit of Spanish has been SUPER useful to us. It’s also been challenging to learn — but learning has its rewards. For example, this morning, I gave a pile of origami flowers to our Spanish tutor so that she could give them to her cat as toys. Later in the afternoon, we got a video of some seriously cute footage of her cat playing with them. Also today, we discovered a sign in the elevator that said the water in our building was going to be unsafe for drinking all day Thursday while they clean out the tanks.

We sure are glad we could read that sign.

I’ve also learned that one of the best things a person can do after achieving something is to turn around and help the person behind them. So, I decided that even though I’m not an expert in Spanish, I certainly know the basic stuff a person needs to know in order to have a safe and enjoyable vacation or spring break getaway in Mexico and Central America. Add into the mix my obsession with making multi-function, travel-savvy things, and voila! or rather, ¡ahí está! the Beach Break Spanish Flash Card and Poker Decks were born — and just in time for Spring Break!

I designed each deck to function as both a complete set of poker cards AND flash cards with some of the basic, important phrases travelers need to make their Latin American beach adventure a little more fun and a little more safe (ahem… “is the water safe to drink?”). And in case you’re wondering about the accuracy of the translations, don’t worry! They’ve been professionally proofread by a native Latin American speaker. So you’re getting good stuff here, people. Stuff like:

  • Where is the bathroom?
  • Do you speak English?
  • I have sunburn.
  • I need to buy insect repellant.
  • Do you have anything without meat? I’m a vegetarian.
  • I have a hangover… let’s do shots of tequila! <– Yep. Seriously. You get to learn that one too.

Both decks contain basically the same info, so you’re only choosing between sizes: Mini or Standard poker size. And since the decks are launching in beta, you can get them for a little bit less right now. It’s one of the perks of being an early adopter. Cheers to you!

So be sure to pick one up or send one to your friend who’s headed south for spring break! After all, sharing is caring… and knowing is half the battle.

This game comes in TWO SIZES to fit your travel needs:
